Circa 1810–1830.
This large Blue Willow transferware platter is an exceptional example of early 19th-century English Staffordshire pottery. Unmarked, as was common for pieces of this period, it showcases the craftsmanship and timeless design that have made Blue Willow patterns a favorite among collectors for over two centuries.
Crafted from lightweight glazed earthenware, the platter features a combed base with distinct three-pronged firing marks, consistent with early Staffordshire production techniques.
In remarkable condition for its age. Fine crazing throughout, minor staining on the back and glaze flaking in a few areas, typical of well-loved early pieces. A unique cobalt drop—a charming production flaw—appears on one of the birds, a testament to its handmade origins.
A beautiful piece of history, this platter tells the story of early 19th-century English pottery, making it a rare find for collectors of Staffordshire ware or Blue Willow patterns.
