A shallow earthenware spongeware bowl, circa early 20th century.
Made in England, however the style closely echoes, and was likely inspired by, traditional 19th-century Scottish spongeware.
Features both sponged and hand painted folk-art style floral motifs and decorations.
Condition: Visible signs of age including crazing and some light staining, as well as a few glaze imperfections, most notably on the exterior of the bowl where there is a kiln flaw - a small section of excess material or kiln debris fused to the glaze during firing. This area is slightly raised and visible as a patch of uneven texture and discoloration, typical of handmade or early 20th-century production processes. It does not affect the structural integrity of the bowl and adds to its handmade character.
Measurements:
9-1/2 w x 1-3/4 h in // 24 w x 4.5 h cm
