Antique pink lustre masonic jug, circa early 19th century.
A pearlware body with monochrome transfer-printed Masonic designs, a large loop handle, and pink lustre details. The image, based on a 1754 engraving by Alexander Slade, shows a Freemason whose body is made up of Masonic symbols—a concept that has intrigued generations of Freemasons.
The text on the jug reads: "The Mysteries that here are Shown are only to a Mason known" (top); "A Free Mason Form'd out of the Materials of his Lodge" (bottom); "and God said" and "was light" (pillars).
Made in England.
Crazing throughout, some staining to base and interior, no chips or cracks, minor flea bites along rim. Overall, in fantastic condition considering age.
Measurements:
5-3/8 h x 6-7/8 w x 5 d in // 13.7 h x 17.5 w x 12.7 d cm
