A pair of very fine Victorian etched glass finger bowls / dessert bowls, circa late 19th century.
Likely made by Boston and Sandwich, an American glass-making company which was located in Sandwich, Massachusetts.
Delicately made in thin, clear glass, each bowl is decorated with a finely etched geometric band, reminiscent of a Greek key motif and framed by a subtle undulating zig zag border.
Traditionally placed at the table after a meal, finger bowls were used for rinsing the fingertips, often filled with warm water and a slice of lemon.
Their simplicity and restraint make them feel unexpectedly modern despite their age.
Condition: Excellent antique condition with light, age-appropriate wear. Flea bitten rims and subtle imperfections in the glass consistent with handmade nature. No chips or cracks.
Measurements:
4-3/4 w x 2-3/4 h in // 12 w x 7 h cm
