Antique 19th Century Wedgwood blue and white transferware bread and butter plates.
Set of 7.
This pattern has been referred to as the "Blue Rose Border" series as well as the "Landscape Series".
The transfer printed scene is likely an Italian view, featuring a villa and mountainous background with a fishing boat and group of people on the shore in the foreground.
This pattern was likely introduced towards the end of the first quarter of the 19th century, becoming very popular in the 1830s.
Markings indicate a production year of 1882 for this set. Impressed Wedgwood marking and workman's marks.
The plates have an early indented rim and no foot rim.
In great condition for their age. One plate is noticeably more stained than the rest and has a hairline crack approx 1-1/4" in length (see last two images). There is crazing throughout the rest of the plates and wear in the pattern along the inner ridges.
Measurements:
7 w in // 17.8 w cm
