The Normandie water pitcher, circa 1935.

Designed by Peter Müller-Munk (1904–1967).

Produced by Revere Copper and Brass Company in Rome, New York.

Impressed manufacturer’s mark on base.

Chromium-plated brass.

An iconic example of Art Deco design, inspired by and named for the French ocean liner, SS Normandie, which was celebrated for its speed, sleek modern design, and technological innovation. The ship made its maiden voyage in 1935, the same year this pitcher was introduced. Müller-Munk’s streamlined form, with its smooth, teardrop shape and windswept curves, evokes the sense of movement and modernity that defined both the ship and the aesthetic of the time.

Müller-Munk, a German émigré who settled in New York in 1926, began his career as a silversmith before transitioning into and becoming a leader in the emerging field of industrial design.

Perfect for collectors or design enthusiasts, the Normandie pitcher - held in many major museum collections - is a timeless statement piece and symbol of design innovation and excellence.

Some of the plating has worn off on the base. Minor surface scratches, small impressions, rubs, and wear commensurate with age and light use.

Measurements:
12 h × 9-1/2 w × 3 d in // 30.4 h x 24.4 w x 7.7 d cm
