Gentle Giants: A Book of Newfoundlands by Bruce Weber.

First Edition. Bulfinch Press. 1994.

Hardcover.

A tender and poetic tribute to the bond between man and his best friend, Gentle Giants is Bruce Weber’s love letter to the Newfoundland breed. This expansive volume captures two years of intimate portraits taken across North America and even in Rome—at the Colosseum, the Villa Borghese gardens, and the Piazza Navona fountain—framing these gentle creatures in both domestic and classical grandeur. Accompanying the photographs are interviews with the dogs’ devoted owners, essays by Weber, and moving texts by literary greats including Eugene O’Neill, Carl Sandburg, Zane Grey, James Baldwin, C.Z. Guest, Will James, Joseph Conrad, Lord Byron, and Patti Smith.

Condition: Minor marks to the cloth cover consistent with age, and a very small surface tear to the front cover (see last image). Spine is intact. Some mild warping to the pages near the front and back covers. Overall, a well-preserved copy in very good vintage condition.

Measurements:
12-1/4 h x 9-3/4 w in // 31 h x 25 w cm
