Stunning midcentury art glass vase designed by Frantisek Zemek (1913-1960) for Mstisov Glass Factory in the Czech Republic in 1956.

Zemek was trained in sculpture and painting. He was influenced by Murano and Scandinavian design and often worked with organic shapes. In the 1950's, Zemek became chief designer of Mstisov where he created the 'Rhapsody' series, which this vase belongs to.

The ‘Rhapsody’ series has become a classic of post-war Czech glass design. The line included various clear glass objects with pink, blue, amber and green pastel shades, described at the time as "music of colours". The series was discontinued in the mid-1960s.

Thick and heavy glass. Polished base (see last image). No chips or cracks. Excellent vintage condition.

Measurements:
8-1/2 h x 4-1/2 w x 3 d in // 21.6 h x 11.4 w x 7.6
