Vintage Mount Royal Hotel teapot, circa 1920s-1940s.

The Mount Royal Hotel in Montreal, at the time of opening in 1922, was the largest hotel in the British Empire. The hotel was eventually converted to a high end mixed-use shopping complex which opened in 1988 as Les Cours Mont-Royal.

This sturdy, practical, utilitarian yet elegant teapot was likely used in the hotels' restaurants or for in-room service during the height of its operation. A rare piece of Canadian hospitality history!

Silver soldered.

Hotel emblem on one side of teapot.

Hinged lid in working order.

Marked on base 'Can. Wm. A. Rogers Ltd. Heirloom Plate. Silver Soldered E. P. N. S. 050. The Mount Royal. 8 oz. 311.'

Much of the silver plating has worn off over the years, leaving a very patinated look. The inside of the teapot is heavily corroded (see last image).

Measurements:
6-3/4 w x 5-1/2 h x 3-1/2 d in // 17.1 w x 14 h x 8.9 d cm
