This is an original 1950s Richard Ginori Colonna espresso set, designed by Giovanni Gariboldi.
Two sets of six cups and saucers are available.
Crafted in fine porcelain, this iconic 1954 design won the prestigious Compasso d'Oro, Italy’s highest design award. In February 2024, Ginori re-released Colonna in limited quantities, reaffirming its enduring status as a modern classic.
Gariboldi, a protégé of the legendary Gio Ponti, was a key figure in Italian modernism and decorative arts. His designs, including Colonna, exemplify the elegant simplicity and refined craftsmanship that define Italian design of the era. Each piece is marked on the base “Richard Ginori Porcellana Ariston Italy.”
This is a rare opportunity to own an authentic mid-century design from one of Italy’s most celebrated porcelain houses.
In excellent condition for age. Minor crazing on three of the saucers and an imperfection in the glaze on one cup (see last two images). These will be included in the second set at a slightly discounted price. No chips or cracks.
