An exceptional vintage midcentury modern ashtray designed by Antonio or Guido Bon for Val Saint Lambert, circa 1950s.
Born in Murano into a family of glassblowers, brothers Antonio and Guido Bon became experts at their craft. From the late 1940s and throughout the 1950s, the brothers worked with Val Saint Lambert to create unique high quality pieces. Their blown crystal designs were characteristically heavy, abstract and organically shaped with the use of pliers. This represented a major design shift for the premier crystal producer of Belgium who abandoned traditional cut crystal designs for smooth lines and a modern sensibility.
This piece is quite large and very heavy (3.17kg / 7 lbs).
Signed on base 'Val St. Lambert'.
A unique, stunning piece and collector’s item. A beautiful cigar ashtray or decorative sculptural accent.
In excellent vintage condition. Slight superficial scratches on the base (see last image).
Measurements:
3-1/2 h x 8-1/2 w in // 8.9 h x 21.6 w cm
