Vintage French Line Cie Gle Transatlantique ocean liner ashtray, circa 1935-1940.

Originally designed by French ceramicist and glassware designer Jean Luce (1895-1964) for the SS Normandie, the largest and fastest passenger ship in the world when it entered service in 1935. Early versions of the ashtray with the ships' name were often swiped by passengers as souvenirs, prompting the cruise line to replace the ships name with their company name, 'Cie Gle Transatlantique', short for The Compagnie Générale Transatlantique (CGT), known overseas as the French Line.

Made in France.

Manufactured by S.E.V.N. Guerville.

Green opaline glass. CGT logo on top, 'French Line' on one side and 'Cie Gle Transatlantic' on the other.

In fantastic condition for age. No chips or cracks.

Measurements:
3-1/4 w x 2-5/8 d x 3/4 h in // 8.3 w x 6.7 d x 1.9 h cm
