Traditional Swedish hand-carved oak Taserudsstake candle holder by Matts Eriksson, circa mid 20th century.

This iconic two-armed folk design originated from an early candlestick discovered at auction in 1904 by Elis i Taserud (Elis Eriksson), who brought it back to his workshop in Arvika (the famous Broderna Erikssons Mobelverkstad) where he worked alongside his three brothers. It would later become the prototype for the Taserudsstake.

Around 1930, Matts i Taserud (Matts Eriksson), Elis' nephew, took over the workshop and began wider production, establishing the Taserudsstake as a celebrated symbol of Swedish folk art and craftsmanship.

Beautifully carved from solid oak wood with graceful bentwood arms and the original branded maker's mark to the underside reading 'Matts i Taserud Arvika.'
